PIONEER COMMUNITY BREAKFAST: The Pioneer Community Breakfast was excellent in every way. It was a beautiful morning. Nearly 700 people were served a superb breakfast. Although at times there was a short line, it moved quickly. The folks seemed to enjoy visiting and the music provided by Pam and Ivan Gerdes was very enjoyable. We appreciate Stone’s sponsorship of the breakfast.
We wish to thank all who helped in any way to make the activity possible, including our city maintenance crew and all the cooks and servers. Several commented that the food was the best ever. What a tremendous well–done job. Also, a special thanks is extended to Vaun Waddell for overseeing the entire activity in behalf of the mayor and city council. We express our appreciation for all who attended and made the activity a great success.
2011 GENERAL CITY ELECTION: The Mayor and two City Council chairs are up for election, all for four- year terms. Candidates are required to submit a Declaration of Candidacy, which affirms that they are a qualified city elector and specifies the office sought. The forms may be picked up at City Hall. The declaration must be accompanied by a nonrefundable $40 filing fee OR a petition with the signatures of at least five qualified city electors. Candidates are responsible for having petition signatures verified by the county clerk before submitting a petition of candidacy to the city clerk. The city clerk may accept candidate declarations (and the requisite fee/petition) starting at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011, but no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011. The election is Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
COUNCILMEMBER HAROLD HARRIS RESIGNATION: We reluctantly accepted the resignation of Councilman Harris. We wish to thank him for 11-1/2 years of service to the city. His service has gone far beyond the call of duty and his contribution to the city is immeasurable. Thank you, Harold.
CURFEW: A reminder that we have a curfew ordinance. The curfew is for all minors and is in effect between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day, beginning on Sundays and running until Thursdays of each week; and from 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. the next day on Saturday and Sunday mornings (commonly known as Friday and Saturday nights from 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m.).
