HELP! Feminine products and sanitary wipes are clogging our sewer lift pumps and creating a danger
of backup in the sewer lines affecting homes. Burned up pumps and continual emergency service are extremely expensive for the city and the problem is getting worse.
HELP WANTED: We are looking for a person to clean city hall. The job will be two or three hours each Tuesday evening. If interested, please apply at city hall between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
2013 GENERAL CITY ELECTION: Two four–year city council chairs are up for election on November 5, 2013. The candidate–filing period expired on Friday, September 6, 2013. The deadline for write–in candidates to file their declaration of intent with the city clerk is Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
CITY CLEANUP: Fall cleanup will start October 14. We will start on the southwest corner of town and then move east and then start on the north side of town on the west and move east. Since it is expensive for the crews to backtrack, we will be unable to accommodate backtrack requests. Due to regulations, please be reminded, first, we cannot pick up leaves and grass clippings unless they are bagged. Second, we cannot pick up large projects such as remodeling materials, roofing, large pieces of concrete, tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, and used oil. Please cut tree limbs to ten–foot lengths, or less. In an effort to cut costs for the citywide cleanup, we are testing the idea of having a dumpster in the city property by the grain silo for yard waste during September and October for those who prefer to deposit their yard waste in the dumpster. Please remove all vehicles and trailers from alleys and have everything ready for pickup by October 11. Again, we are attempting to reduce the costs of citywide cleanup and we would appreciate your support so that we can continue this service.
STORAGE BUILDING: A 40‘ X 60‘ materials storage building, which includes an area for sand to be kept dry for winter use on the roads, will be under construction soon. It will be located adjacent to the existing storage building on the grain silo property. We are also planning to replace the cracked sidewalk in front of the city building and build a decorative façade on the front of the city building.
