October 2009

Dear Sugar City Residents:

SPECIAL THANKS:  We would like to thank the volunteers who have done an excellent job with the flower barrels around town.  They were beautiful.

DOG ORDINANCE, RESOLUTION:  The city is working on a proposed new dog ordinance.  The revised ordinance has significant changes, and your input is welcome.  The dog ordinance and resolution will be posted on the city Web site once the draft is completed.

TREE LIMBS AND SHRUBBERY LIMBS OVERHANGING IN CITY EASEMENTS:  The overhanging tree limbs and shrubbery limbs that overhang the street must be trimmed back to prevent the limbs from damaging the mirrors of the city’s equipment so we can properly sweep the curbs and plow the snow.  We would prefer that owners trim their own trees and shrubs or, if necessary, they can notify the city and the city will be glad to trim them.  If nothing is done, the city needs to take the responsibility to trim the trees in our nine-foot easement for the safety and protection of the city’s employees and equipment.

SAVE MONEY!!!  STOP WATERING BY OCTOBER 31ST.  THIS WILL KEEP THE SEWER PORTION OF YOUR BILL LOWER.

2009 GENERAL CITY ELECTION UPDATE:  Bruce King and Vaun Waddell have filed Petitions of Candidacy for the two four-year council seats up for election on November 3, 2009.  The deadline for write-in candidate filing is Tuesday, October 20, at 4 p.m.  The closing date to register to vote is Friday, October 9.  Voters may still register when voting in-person absentee or on Election Day.  Wednesday, October 28 is the deadline for mail-in absentee ballot requests.

CABLE ONE FRANCHISE:  The current Cable One franchise agreement with the city is due to be renewed on or before November 12, 2009.  The Cable Act requires that the public be given both notice of the proposed franchise renewal and an opportunity for participation in the franchise renewal process.  Because the regular city council meeting on September 24 was canceled, a public information meeting will be held at the regular city council meeting on October 8.  Please plan to attend and give your input.
