Dear Sugar City Residents:
THANKSGIVING DAY: We wish everyone a
special Thanksgiving and hope you have a nice
holiday. We all have so much to be thankful for.
VETERANS DAY: Take time to remember and
thank those veterans who have served and
defended us so we can live happy and free. There is
a Veterans Day Memorial Ceremony at Smith Park
in Rexburg at 12 noon on Tuesday, November 11.
ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING: The Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is December 1st at Heritage Park at 6 p.m. by the gazebo. Come and enjoy a short program with hot apple cider, cookies and Santa Claus. If you would like to help with set up we will be putting the lights up on Saturday, November 29th at 10 a.m.
CITY HALL CLOSURE: City Hall will be closed November 11 in observance of Veterans Day and November 27 and 28 in observance of Thanksgiving.
COUNCIL MEETING: The regular council meeting on the fourth Thursday of the month is canceled due to the holiday.
GARBAGE PICKUP: Because of Thanksgiving Day on Thursday garbage pickup for that week will be Friday, November 28.
OVERNIGHT PARKING: Just a reminder of our snow ordinance – no parking is allowed on city streets from December 1st through March 1st, between the hours of 12 midnight and 7 a.m.
FALL CLEANUP: Our Fall Cleanup started on October 20th and finished October 22nd. We thank you for all your cooperation in this effort. Total 52 truck loads were hauled away. In future cleanups please be aware of utilities (power, water, phone, and sewer) and do not place items within 5 feet of them. Piling your items too close to utilities can cause a safety hazard to our crews and cause extensive damage.
POST OFFICE: The Post Office has recently notified all residents of the City that, effective, June 1, 2015, each postal customer will either have to rent a post office box or erect a mail box on the curb at their residence. (Sooner if you don’t currently have a post office box.) If you elect to have a mail box on your curb keep in mind that the winters usually produce a fair amount of snow that has to be plowed off the streets. Snow plowing and curbside mailboxes don’t mix well.
You should site and construct your mailbox to be attractively installed and to be able to withstand the wear and tear of having snow pushed to the side of the street. The City crew does not have enough time or manpower to clear the snow away from each mailbox when the streets have to be cleared. Please plan on clearing the snow around your mailbox. If you have any questions about how to best site your mailbox to avoid damage from snow plowing, call the city office.
