SPRING CLEANUP: The city_has set a tentatíve date of May 8th to start sprinq  cleanup. Please wait for city wide clean-up to put out garbage to help  prevent the wind from blowing garbage around our city. To help those of  you that would lilce to start your yard clean-up early, the dumpster on the  west side of town just north of the old elevator is now available for use.  Reminder: Household garbage is not allowed at the dumpster.

WATERING: We read the water meters at the end of March. This means you  will see an adjustment to your water bill based on how good our winter  estimate was. This also means you can start watering again.  WATERING TIP: According to research from Utah State University in Logan,  Utah, lawns dont really require as much water as many of us are giving  them. Lawns should receive Y2 inch of water every 3 to 4 days. Place water  cans or buckets around your yard when you water. As soon as you get Y2 inch  of water in your bucket or can, stop watering and remember how much time  it took the sprinkler to put that much water out. Set your timer to only give  that much water every 3 – 4 days. You will have to water more frequently as  it gets hotter in July and August by watering every 2-3 days. Increasing the  amount of water will not help; it will only wash through the soil.

“REMINDER”: If you didn’t have a test on your sprinlder system backflow  preventer done last year, please have one done this year and bring your  report into City Hall. This is necessary to ensure that contamination of the  water supply will not happen in the event of a pressure loss to the water  system. Thank you to those that have already brought in test results!

REVERSE 911 SYSTEM: We would like to encourage all citizens to sign up for  Reverse 911. Go to madisonsheriff.com under Alert Sense and it will take  you to the page to subscribe for emergency notifications.

It appears that spring has finally come. It’s now time to do our spring  clean-ups. I would like to encourage all of us to continue to make our  community a beautiful place to live. Remember that the city-wide  cleanup is coming on May 8th. If you are going to use this service instead  of the dumpster the city provides, then please put out the items you need  picked up just prior to the clean-up date. Thank you.

On August 21st at 11:33am there will be a total eclipse of the sun. This  may bring thousands of people to our surrounding communities, from all  parts of the world. The City has participated in many meetings to plan  for this major undertaking. We are planning for the worst, but hoping for  the best.

The city has designated Smith and Heritage parks as general viewing areas  for the people coming to our community. Of course, you are in a great  area to just see it from your own homes. However, all are welcome into  the parks, since we are trying to have vendors come to provide food and  other appropriate items, including glasses so you can look at the eclipse.  If you have any concerns, or want additional information about the  eclipse, please feel free to contact us.

The city just recently held their first town hall meeting on the new well  and water tank that we are considering. The next meetings will be on the  following dates, May 17′, July 12″, and September 20″. These meetings  will be held at city hall and begin at 7:00 pm. I encourage all of you to  attend these meetings.

A question was asked at this last meeting as to whether or not the city has  a current bond issue, and how long it has until it will be paid in full. The  answer to that question is yes, and it runs until 2025. However, the city

does have the option that if a new Bond issue is approved by the voters, it  can roll the e)dsting bond into the new one, if it is deemed financially

prudent because of the potentially lower interest rates.

We will have three new businesses come to our city. First, there is a new

business coming to the Business Park that manufactures shoes with special  soles that are made from a special rubber developed in South America.

Secondly, an existing building is to be refurbished, which is located on

Railroad Avenue, to provide space for events, such as wedding receptions,  etc. And Thirdly, the old grocery store will be renovated and a new Steak  House restaurant will be developed. We are excited for these businesses,

and for the positive impact they will have on Sugar City.

I have worked with businesses for many years, and am aware of the good  they do for our communities. They donate thousands of dollars to good

activities, such as youth athletics and others. I welcome them.

Now that summer is approaching, remember to be safe. Summer is a

great time to get out and have some fun, but I encourage everyone to

obey traffic laws, and be safe. We want all of you to be around for a long  time. Thank you.

Sincerely,

David D. Ogden, Mayor
