The Mayor and Council have long been concerned about the safety of our  school children as they go to and from school. Last summer we extended  the sidewalk from Heritage Park to the High School. This spring we are  installing three pairs of flashing lights to protect the most used school  crossings on Center street. They will be located at the corners of Pine  Avenue, Park Avenue, and Cutler Avenue on Center Street. These lights  are solar powered and are activated by a button. We also installed 10  handicapped corners on Center street. The City is interested in hearing  from you about other areas that could use safety improvements to protect  our school children and the elderly.

The City will be finalizing its water study on the 27th of April, and  considering a project to improve and enhance our water system. This  may necessitate the sale of a Bond to fund the project. In order to do this,  there would have to be a vote in November during our regular city  elections.

The City has engaged the services of The Development Company to do an  income survey of its citizens in order to qualify for some potential grant  funds, which might offset some of the costs of the new well and tank.  There will be some people canvasing our neighborhoods to obtain this  information. They will start about the 10th of May, and end about the 27th  of May. We would ask you to help the city by cooperating with these  individuals.

    Sincerely,

    David D. Ogden, Mayor
