Dear City Residents,

This last week my wife and I had the opportunity to see a new movie entitled “The Greatest Showman. It is a musical about the early life of P.T. Barnum. The movie was very well done, and we really liked the music. However, the real message of the show was about diversity and how it makes us all better people.

The movie depicts Barnum as a young man growing up very poor, with no parents, and having to steal food from the street vendors to survive. He becomes acquainted with a neighbor girl who is from a very wealthy family. He works hard and eventually marries his childhood sweetheart, although her family believes he will come to naught

After losing his first job, he comes up with the idea of a curiosity shop and wax museum. But when that fails he listens to a friend who suggests that he needs something real. So, he begins to recruit people of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Thus, begins his circus. After making many mistakes he comes to realize that these people have become as important to him as his family. After all they are real people as well

I have come to realize that no matter what our social strata, our economic standing, or our beliefs. No matter whether we own large homes and have lots of toys, or whether we rent our home, or have little or nothing to give, no matter whether we are attractive or not, or whether we are of differing shapes and sizes, we are children of a God who loves us, and has provided for us this beautiful world to live in

I love this community, and hope we will continue to love each other. Thanks for all you do for this community.

Sincerely,

David D. Ogden Mayor
