OVERNIGHT PARKING: Beginning March 14, our snow ordinance is no longer in affect. We have appreciated your cooperation in not parking on the streets this winter.
SPRING CLEANUP: The city has set a tentative date of May 20th to start spring cleanup. Please do not put items out on the roads or alleys more than one week ahead of time. A dumpster will soon be placed on the west side of Silo Park off of North Front & C Street for items that you need to discard before the city clean-up.
Reminder: Household garbage is not allowed at the dumpster.

**SEWER AND WATER EMERGENCIES** We would like to remind all residents that in case of an emergency such as a water leak or sewer issue that happens after hours or on weekend, you can call city hall and there is an emergency option that will transfer you to our public works director.

MAYOR’S MONTHLY MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
I want to take this opportunity to bring you up to date on the new water project. For those of you who are not aware of the history I will endeavor to address it. Back in early 2017 we finished, and the Sugar City Council adopted, the Water Study of our system. The engineers found that we were sorely lacking in sufficient fire flow to meet the standards governing our water system, which is governed by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. The council, therefore, approved unanimously a little more than a $4.2-million-dollar project to drill a new well, construct a new water tank, construct a new well house, including all the piping and pumps, and provide some new piping in the ground for distribution of the water to connect to our current system.
A Bond was passed, in the amount of $3.7 million dollars to help fund the project. The difference of about $500 thousand dollars was to come from two sources. First, the developers of Old Farm Estates donated a two-acre piece of property, at no cost to the city, which was appraised for $250 thousand dollars. Secondly, we originally negotiated with the OFE developers to pre-pay water and sewer connection fees, so that the city would have the cash now. The Sugar City council elected to not execute that agreement, and so we will collect the fees on our own to reimburse the city for those out-of-pocket costs.
This should not be a problem as all new homes will pay a total connection fee of $5,550 and a building permit fee averaging $2,500. In just the new Division #4 that the developers are in the process of platting, there will be 38 new home sites. If the city continues on the current grow cycle it will take approximately 3-4 years to fill this division. This will bring in approximately $305 thousand dollars to the city. This says nothing about all the other growth out there.
The new well is being drilled, the new tank is under construction, and the new water line has been completed with the exception of the water tests. We have received good costs on these items, and we should end up in within budget. Thanks for your support.
