CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING & LIVE NATIVITY: A special  thanks to the Tree & Beautification Committee, Sugar-Salem  school children’s choir and local area church members that  made our annual Christmas tree lighting & live nativity  successful. The nativity was a wonderful addition to the

ceremony. We would also like to thank our Public Works Department for the Christmas lights and decorations  in Heritage Park and on Center Street and we are also grateful for the Madison County Fire Department and  Sheriff’s Department for escorting Santa on his visit. Thanks to our community for your support.

TREE & BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE: We would like to thank our volunteers for the dedication and hard  work in helping the city with its events. There is currently a need for new volunteers. The next event the  committee will be planning will be the Arbor Day Celebration in May and the planning meetings would  normally start in March. If you are interested in serving on the committee please contact city hall.

HOLIDAY CLOSURES: City Hall will be closed January 1st for New Year’s and January 18th for Civil Rights Day. HOLIDAY GARBAGE PICK-UP: Garbage will be picked up on Saturday, January 2nd due to New Years.

SNOW REMOVAL & OVERNIGHT PARKING: Our snow ordinance states no parking on city streets from  December 1st through March 1st, between the hours of 12 midnight and 7 a.m. We also ask if it snows during  the day and plows are out, to move vehicles off the street. Keep cars uncovered from snow and parked back  off of roads and please pull into driveways further to stay clear of the snowplows. The city will not be clearing  driveways to avoid damaging property in the process. We cannot assume liability for any damage that occurs.  The city plows when we receive 3 inches or more of snow, the cost of which is roughly $2-2500.00 each time.  This covers wages, fuel, cutting edges and equipment maintenance.

DOG LICENSE REMINDER: Licenses expired Dec. 31st; please make sure your pets are up to date. If you have a  photo of your pet to put on file this would also be helpful.

BUSINESS LICENSE REMINDER: Business licenses expired Dec 31st. Commercial licenses are $20.00. Home  businesses are $10.00. You may send in a check to pay for your license and a new license will be mailed to  you. (Do not combine with utility payment; it must be a separate check.)
