ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION: As Sugar City is an official Tree City, USA, the Tree and Beautification Committee will be holding an Arbor Day Celebration on May 11th, 2017 at 11 a.m. near the gazebo in Heritage Park where a new tree will be planted. The public is welcome to attend.
SPRING CLEANUP: The city has set a tentative date of May 21st to start spring cleanup. Please wait for city wide clean–up to put out garbage to help prevent the wind from blowing garbage around our city. To help those of you that would like to start your yard clean–up early, the dumpster on the west side of town just north of the old elevator is now available for use. Reminder: Household garbage is not allowed at the dumpster.
WATERING: We read the water meters at the end of March. This means you will see an adjustment to your water bill based on how good our winter estimate was. This also means you can start watering again.
WATERING TIP: According to research from Utah State University in Logan, Utah, lawns don’t really require as much water as many of us are giving them. Lawns should receive 1⁄2 inch of water every 3 to 4 days. Place water cans or buckets around your yard when you water. As soon as you get 1⁄2 inch of water in your bucket or can, stop watering and remember how much time it took the sprinkler to put that much water out. Set your timer to only give that much water every 3-4 days. You will have to water more frequently as it gets hotter in July and August by watering every 2-3 days. Increasing the amount of water will not help; it will only wash through the soil.

*REMINDER**: If you didn’t have a test on your sprinkler system backflow preventer done last year, please have one done this year and bring your report into City Hall. This is necessary to ensure that contamination of the water supply will not happen in the event of a pressure loss to the water system. Thank you to those that have already brought in test results!

Dear City Residents,
I wanted to update you as to the progress of the new water project. The test well has been drilled and we have found an excellent water supply at about 420 feet. We have collected samples to test for any problems, however, it appears the water is very clear and should be a great source for us. We are now pumping to determine the volume of water in the underground stream, although it appears to be very good. Once we have finished the testing we will be able to go out and contract for the new well.
I want to apologize for any confusion that may have arisen about the last city council meeting. Knowing that my father was about to pass away, and that I would need to go to Richfield, Utah, Wendy and I looked at the potential agenda for the regular meeting to be held on March 22nd and determined that there were only a couple of non–critical items that could wait for our next meeting. Therefore, we posted that the council meeting would be canceled, as is allowed in our city code. I was surprised to learn that while I was gone three of the city councilors decided to call for a special meeting anyway, to discuss several items. I hope that this did not cause any confusion or concerns for you. Especially since many of you may not have become aware of the change. Thanks for your understanding and patience.
We are excited about the number of new building permits we are getting already this spring. It looks to be a busy year for construction of new residential units. We are also excited about the continuing efforts by the YMCA to finalize their feasibility study, which would help determine if their new facility will be viable here in Sugar City. They are still cautiously optimistic about its chances.
Remember, now is the time to begin spring cleanup. Collection for Spring Cleanup is scheduled for May 21st. Thanks for your support, and Happy Easter.
