We have started out our winter season with a real bang. It seems that we are keeping our snow removal crew very busy. I know that the city has had the benefit of having berms removed in front of driveways for a long time. Over the past couple of years things have changed that are going to require us to stop providing this service.
First, our liability insurance carrier will not cover any incident, such as damage to vehicles or mail boxes, while removing snow, leaving the city liable. Second, we are experiencing more mail boxes all the time. Many of those are right next to the driveway, and it would be easy to damage them. Also, we have experienced some complaints on how and where we remove the berms. Third, as we continue to add new homes and businesses, this service is taxing our crew, and making it take longer to remove the snow, and we want to remain sensitive to your needs to have the snow removed as quickly as possible.
I have been amazed at how people have been helping their neighbors in removing berms and clearing driveways. We have such a wonderful community. Therefore, we will no longer be removing the berms from in front of driveways. However, if there is an unusually heaving and wet snow, the city will jump in and help, or if there is an emergency situation where the larger equipment is needed, we will still respond to your call for help. Thanks for your understanding.
Sincerely,
David D. Ogden, Mayor
