Happy New Year

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING: A special thanks to Councilman Glenn Dayley and Kershaw School children’s choir for making our annual Christmas tree lighting successful. We would also like to thank our Public Works Department for the Christmas lights and decorations in Heritage Park and on Center Street. We are also grateful for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department for escorting Santa on his visit. Thanks to our community for your support

NEW CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER: The city welcomes Kimber Jones as the new parttime code enforcement officer. He has replaced Jon Turner, who recently moved from the area

HOLIDAY CLOSURES: City Hall will be closed January 3rd for New Year’s Holiday and January 17th for Civil Rights Day

HOLIDAY GARBAGE PICKUP: Garbage pickup will be on a normal schedule as New Year’s falls on Saturday. PSI Environmental will not pick up garbage sitting outside of the provided container. If you need more than one can for your garbage service, please call city hall to obtain a second can. Please tie garbage bags tightly before placing garbage bags in containers

ILLEGAL DUMPING OF WASTE: There has been an issue with dumping of waste where the city dumpster was located on the west side of Silo Park off of North Front & C Street and with the smaller dumpster by the city sheds. The big dumpster by the city sheds is available to city residents only, from midApril to midNovember. Once the dumpster is removed, it is no longer legal to dump waste on the site. The smaller dumpster by the sheds is for city use only, not residential use. The site is under surveillance and there is a $100.00 fine for those found dumping illegally. Please remove any items or waste that

you may have deposited in public areas and alleys to avoid possible citations and to eliminate possible health and safety hazards. Thank you for your cooperation

City Code 3-1-8: Responsibility for Disposal: A: Owners: No person shall deposit refuse on or below the surface of the ground other than in a manner prescribed in this chapter. No person shall deposit or bury any refuse in or upon a public alley, street, other public area or upon the premises of another person, whether or not the refuse is in an approved container. No refuse of any kind shall be thrown, swept or pushed into the street in front of any premises. The owner of the premises shall be responsible for the disposal of all such refuse

”

SNOW REMOVAL & OVERNIGHT PARKING: Our snow ordinance states no parking on city streets from December 1st through March 1st, between the hours of 12 midnight and 7 a.m. There is also no parking of vehicles or trailers in alleys at any time. We also ask if it snows during the day and plows are out, to move vehicles off the street. Keep cars uncovered from snow and parked back off of roads and please pull into driveways further to stay clear of the snowplows. The city will not be clearing driveways to avoid damaging property in the process. We cannot assume liability for any damage that occurs. The city plows when we receive 3 inches or more of snow, the cost of which is roughly $2-2500.00 each time. This covers wages, fuel, cutting edges and equipment maintenance

BUSINESS LICENSE REMINDER: Business licenses expired Dec 31st. Commercial licenses are $20.00. Home businesses are $10.00. You may send in a check to pay for your license and a new license will be mailed to you. (Do not combine with utility payment; it must be a separate check.

DOG LICENSE REMINDER: Please make sure your pets are licensed to avoid any potential fines. Licenses are $15.00 per pet for their lifetime. If you have a photo of your pet to put on file this would also be helpful
