If you already have a permit for sales, we need your permit number. Food vendors must have a photocopy of your state temporary license or exemption form with you in your booth. More information will be on the city’s website and Facebook page.
GARBAGE PICK–UP REMINDER: Garbage will be picked up on Saturday, July 6th due to the 4th of July Holiday. The roll–off dumpster on the west side of town, west of N. Front, off of C Street is available for waste other than household garbage. Items not allowed include large projects such as remodeling materials, roofing, large pieces of concrete, tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, used oil and household garbage.
NO DUMPING OF YARD WASTE OR ITEMS IN CITY: Dumping at the end of streets or in alleys is not allowed other than the designated times for city clean up in May and October. CITY CODE 3-1-8 RESPONSIBILITY FOR DISPOSAL: A: Owners: No person shall deposit refuse on or below the surface of the ground other than in a manner prescribed in this Chapter. No person shall deposit or bury any refuse in or upon a public alley, street, other public area or upon the premises of another person, whether or not the refuse is in an approved container. No refuse of any kind shall be thrown, swept or pushed into the street in front of any premises. The owner of the premises shall be responsible for the disposal of all such refuse.
TREE & BEAUTIFICATION COMMITEE: The committee is in need of volunteers. If you are interested please call city hall for information. Thank You!!
BURNING WITHIN THE CITY: City Code does not address burning waste. County guidelines must be followed. See the following website: http://www.fdmadison.org/.You can register there and read the regulations for burning.
DOG LICENSING AND LEASH LAW: There have been complaints of dogs running loose in the city. Sugar City does have a leash law. See city code 4-1-9 B and a dog must be licensed; see city code 4-1-3. Fines may be accrued for non–compliance.
WATERING TIP: According to research from Utah State University in Logan, Utah, lawns don’t really require as much water as many of us are giving them. Lawns should receive 1/2 inch of water every 3 to 4 days. Place water cans or buckets around your yard when you water. As soon as you get 1/2 inch of water in your bucket or can, stop watering and remember how much time it took the sprinkler to put that much water out. Set your timer to only give that much water every 3 – 4 days. You will have to water more frequently as it gets hotter in July and August by watering every 2-3 days. Increasing the amount of water will not help; it will only wash through the soil.
SPRINKLER SYSTEMS: If you didn’t have a test on your sprinkler system backflow preventer done last year, please have one done this year and bring your report into City Hall. This is necessary to ensure that contamination of the water supply will not happen in the event of a pressure loss to the water system. Thank you to those that have already brought in test results!
REVERSE 911 SYSTEM: We would like to encourage all citizens to sign up for Reverse 911. Go to madisonsheriff.com under Alert Sense and it will take you to the page to subscribe for emergency notifications.

MAYOR’S MONTHLY MESSAGE
Dear Friends,
This next week we will be celebrating Independence Day. It is one of my favorite holidays of the year. As a young boy I grew up in a military family. Dad was in the Air Force, and served as a civil engineer. We were stationed in Okinawa during the Korean conflict, and in Guam during Vietnam. Love for and loyalty to the United States of America has been deeply engrained in my heart. I still believe that we owe a significant debt not only to our country, but to those individuals who have served it so valiantly. Please join me in honoring our veterans this year by taking time to get to know them and providing them some form of service.
The city council and I will be in the 4th of July parade in Rexburg, that starts at 10:00 am. I hope to see you
there. We are also going to participate in the 24th of July parade in St. Anthony. The date for that parade and other festivities will be held on Saturday, the 27th of July. We will be holding our annual breakfast that morning, starting at about 7:00 am, and running until about 10:00 am. We will then begin our Sugar Days celebration at 11:00 am to 5 pm. There will be food, fun and other items. Please come and celebrate with us as a community.
This is a very busy time of year for the city. The council has just approved four new plats, that will contain townhomes and cottage homes. These are single family residences that are on the smaller size, and will be great for first time homeowners and retirees. Our city continues to grow, and we are committed to making it all look and feel good. Thanks for your support.
Sincerely,
David D. Ogden, Mayor
