May 2008

Dear Sugar City Residents:

NEWSPAPER RECYCLING:  A recycling bin is now located on the east side of Sugar City Market.

CEMETERY SEXTON NEEDED:  The Sugar-Salem Cemetery is looking for a sexton.  Please contact Joyce Cromar at 356-4782.

DOG LICENSES:  Dog licenses expire on May 1 each year, so please come and renew them.  The fee is $10 per dog per year.  Residents are allowed only two dogs and they need to be licensed.  Dogs need to be kept on a leash and not running at large – this includes in the early mornings and late at night when exercising them.

SPRING CITY CLEANUP:  Spring city cleanup is scheduled to begin Monday, May 12, and end Friday, May 23, or sooner.  You may now put your trash in the alleys until the cleanup is completed, at which time no trash is to be put in the alleys until you are notified of fall cleanup.   NO TIRES, BATTERIES, USED OIL OR LARGE PIECES OF CONCRETE WILL BE PICKED UP. We cannot accommodate major remodeling or building projects.  The cleanup schedule is as follows:

(1) south side beginning west and working to the east; and

(2) north side beginning east and working to the west.

The entire cleanup should be completed in two weeks.  Please be prepared and not ask the workers to come back after they have passed your area.

WATER METERS:  As water meters are now being read, we remind all residents that the meter reader needs to have easy access to the meter.  Therefore, if your meter is in a fenced area, please make sure that gates are unlocked during the last full week of each month.  Thank you for your consideration of this matter.  The slow melting snow has caused considerable difficulty.  As you may know, the meters should have been read at the end of March.  Also, when we started to read meters near the end of April, we have had considerable problems with our meter reading device.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

BUSINESS PARK:  Edstrom Construction was awarded the contract for the installation of the infrastructure in the business park.  The plan calls for construction to begin May 1.

BIKE PATH:  Once again, the bid to construct the bike path came in well above the available money.  Hopefully the bid will be awarded to the low bidder, as the Idaho Transportation Department has agreed to come up with $50,000 and the two cities have agreed to come up with approximately $60,000 to cover the balance of the overage.  Construction should be completed during the early summer except for the canal bridge, which cannot be built until water is out of the canal this fall.

THOMAS NEIBAUR MEMORIAL PARK:  Plans are underway to establishing a monument in Thomas Neibaur’s honor.  He was the first person in Idaho to earn the Congressional Medal of Honor.  The monument will also honor all the past and present servicemen from this area.  The date for the unveiling of the monument is scheduled for July 26.

OLD FARM ESTATES:  The final plat for phase one of this development (39 homes) has been approved.  Subject to the approval of a development agreement, construction is scheduled to begin early this summer.

TOSCANO:  The preliminary plat has been approved and they are working the ground, cleaning up the weeds and checking out the water and sewer system that has previously been installed.
