If any of you would like to donate plastic Easter eggs to the city it would be much appreciated in preparation for next year’s event.
MADISON COUNTY COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS SURVEY:
Please go to http://prepare.community/sugarcity to take a survey to help Madison County Emergency management to understand the preparedness needs and risk perceptions of its residents as part of the County’s Hazard Mitigation Plan update process. To do so, a questionnaire has been distributed throughout the county and your participation is requested. The questionnaire takes about 10 minutes and all responses are confidential. The input will enable the county to better serve you in times of disaster. PRIZE: As a thank you for taking the survey, you may enter into a prize raffle. Prizes include weather radios, emergency preparedness kits and more. Survey deadline is May 31, 2019.
TREE & BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE: The committee is in need of volunteers. If you are interested please call city hall for information. Thank You!!
SPRING CLEANUP: Spring cleanup is May 20th. Have items out before 7:00 a.m. Please do not put items out on the roads or alleys more than one week ahead of time. A dumpster is on the west side of Silo Park off of North Front & C Street, for items that you need to discard before the city clean–up. Reminder: Household garbage is not allowed at the dumpster.
ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION: As Sugar City is an official Tree City, USA, the Tree and Beautification Committee will be holding an Arbor Day Celebration on May 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Heritage Park where a new tree will be planted. The public is welcome to attend.
SUGAR DAYS CELEBRATION: Sugar Days Celebration is to be held on July 20th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Heritage Park. We will be inviting vendors to sign up to join in the festivities, if you are interested please call City hall for more information. More information will be in future newsletters and on the city’s website and Facebook page.
HOLIDAY GARBAGE PICKUP: Because of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27th, garbage pickup for that week will be Saturday, June 1st.
WATERING TIP: According to research from Utah State University in Logan, Utah, lawns don’t really require as much water as many of us are giving them. Lawns should receive 1⁄2 inch of water every 3 to 4 days. Place water cans or buckets around your yard when you water. As soon as you get 1⁄2 inch of water in your bucket or can, stop watering and remember how much time it took the sprinkler to put that much water out. Set your timer to only give that much water every 3 – 4 days. You will have to water more frequently as it gets hotter in July and August by watering every 2-3 days. Increasing the amount of water will not help; it will only wash through the soil.
SPRINKLER SYSTEMS: If you didn’t have a test on your sprinkler system backflow preventer done last year, please have one done this year and bring your report into City Hall. This is necessary to ensure that contamination of the water supply will not happen in the event of a pressure loss to the water system. Thank you to those that have already brought in test results!
REVERSE 911 SYSTEM: We would like to encourage all citizens to sign up for Reverse 911. Go to madisonsheriff.com under Alert Sense and it will take you to the page to subscribe for emergency notifications.
SEWER AND WATER EMERGENCIES: We would like to remind all residents that in case of an emergency such as a water leak or sewer issue that happens after hours or on weekend, you can call city hall and there is an emergency option that will transfer you to our public works director. MAYOR’S MONTHLY MESSAGE
April 24, 2019
Dear Friends,
As many of you may have heard, three members of the city council, Vaun Waddell, Joy Ball and Bruce King, have resigned, as of April 11, 2019. Because there are not enough remaining council members left to conduct business, Governor Brad Little has graciously consented, through his authority, to appoint two new members, which would then give us a quorum to conduct business. I would then be able to appoint the remaining member to the council. I look forward to working with the new council and move the city forward.
Please be assured that the administration of the city will continue, and that there will be no interruption of the services you have come to rely on. The actual operation of the city is still under the mayor and his staff, and we will continue to provide the necessary services to you.
I am hoping to have the new council in effect by the meeting on the 9th of May. However, on whatever date it is finally set, we will invite you to come to meet the new council, and will even have refreshments to make it a nice event. We will keep you posted.
I am deeply grateful for all of your support, and wish you a great month.
Sincerely,
David D. Ogden, Mayor
