2011 GENERAL CITY ELECTION: The Mayor and two City Council chairs are up for election, all for four- year terms. Candidates are required to submit a Declaration of Candidacy, which affirms that they are a qualified city elector and specifies the office sought. The forms may be picked up at City Hall. The declaration must be accompanied by a nonrefundable $40 filing fee OR a petition with the signatures of at least five qualified city electors. Candidates are responsible for having petition signatures verified by the county clerk before submitting a petition of candidacy to the city clerk. The city clerk may accept candidate declarations (and the requisite fee/petition) starting at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011, but no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011. The election is Tuesday, November 8, 2011

UTILITIES INCREASES: Given the struggling economy and out of concern for the citizens, the city’s increased utility costs have not been passed along to the citizens for several years. The sewer treatment increase imposed by the City of Rexburg has been passed along to the citizens. The city’s utility funds are still in good financial condition. However, it has become necessary to impose a modest rate increase in sewer, water and garbage in 2012 and again in 2013. Please be advised that the 2012 fiscal year begins October 1, 2011. If these modest increases are not sufficient to cover all costs, the savings accounts in the respective areas can step up to support any over run of the projected budget

FIRE STATION OPEN HOUSE: The Fire Station dedication and open house are scheduled for Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 6 p.m. All Sugar City residents are invited and encouraged to attend
