September 2013

Dear Sugar City Residents:

START OF SCHOOLSchool has started.   We caution everyone to drive carefully and watch for children.

GARBAGE PICKUPBecause of Labor Day on Monday, September 2, garbage pickup for that week will be Friday, September 6.

SUGAR SALEM MOODY CEMETERYThe Sugar Salem Moody Cemetery is in need of help.  Supplies, labor and monetary donations are needed to finish the expansion development.  Any help you can give would be much appreciated.  Please contact the cemetery secretary, Joyce Cromar, at 356-4782 or Mike Stears at 313,4444, who is helping to oversee the project.

LEGISLATIVE TOUREach year the Idaho Legislators tour a different area in the State of Idaho.  This is the first time in many years that they have determined to visit this area of Southeast Idaho.  They have chartered two buses in order to tour the area – Rexburg, Sugar City, St. Anthony, Ashton, Driggs, the recreation areas in Island Park and Teton Basin, and surrounding agricultural areas.  They will also be touring the area of the sand dunes and the aquifer recharge area.   On Monday, September 23, at approximately 2 p.m. they will be driving through Sugar City.  We hope to have Center Street lined with flags and a tour guide will call attention to our parks, schools and businesses.  Our city crew will make every effort to have the view of the city in top condition.

CITY CLEANUPFall cleanup will start October 14.  We will start on the southwest corner of town and then move east and then start on the north side of town on the west and move east.  Since it is expensive for the crews to backtrack, we will be unable to accommodate backtrack requests.  Due to regulations, please be reminded, first, we cannot pick up leaves and grass clippings unless they are bagged.  Second, we cannot pick up large projects such as remodeling materials, roofing, large pieces of concrete, tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, and used oil.  Please cut tree limbs to ten-foot lengths, or less.  In an effort to cut costs for the citywide cleanup, we are testing the idea of having a dumpster in the city property by the grain silo for yard waste during September and October for those who prefer to deposit their yard waste in the dumpster.  Please remove all vehicles and trailers from alleys and have everything ready for pickup by October 11.  Again, we are attempting to reduce the costs of citywide cleanup and we would appreciate your support so that we can continue this service.
